If you’re thinking about returning to College as an adult, you’re not alone.
Many adults think about studying a course at College, but are unsure what it is like studying as an adult. Let’s discover the top reasons why you should give it a go! It’s never too late to learn at EKC Sheppey College.
Learn at Any Age
EKC Sheppey College has a diverse student population, with learners of all ages across subject areas and courses.
Don’t let age hold you back, your life experience may even give you an advantage as you’ll have a broader knowledge, maturer outlook and transferable skills that employers value in any industry.
Flexible Study Options
We offer a variety of flexible options, so whether you decide to complete a full-time course (coming to College two/three days a week), or a part-time course (just one or two lessons a week), you will still have plenty of time for family life and any jobs you already have.
Dawn is just one example of an adult learner who fitted studying around their life. She studied GCSE English alongside a full-time career. Now that she has achieved the grade she needed, she has moved away to begin her nursing career.

Education Doesn’t Always Have to Cost
Whilst education is an investment, there are many ways to make it affordable. Advanced Learner Loans and Bursaries are available and depending on your household income and previous educational qualifications, some of our courses can even be FREE.
To find out more about this, contact the College Services team about eligibility.
Find Like-Minded People
Having a mix of ages and experiences on your course can enrich the learning environment for everyone. Regardless of age, everyone on the course will have a common interest – you’ve all chosen to study your chosen subject.
You might also be surprised to find other adult learners on your course. Our full-time options are open to those aged 19+ as well, meaning you always can study the subject area you’re interested in.
Joanne Lang was apprehensive about joining the full-time Level 2 Early Years course, but soon realised she had nothing to worry about. She thoroughly enjoyed her time at College, commenting: “As a mature student, I wasn’t treated any differently by the 16-18 students.
“Everyone was shocked when I said what my real age was as we all got on so well!”

It’s Never Too Late
It’s never too late to pursue a new passion or career path. Many successful career changes happen later in life and your previous work experience can often be applied in new and exciting ways in a different field. Retraining can lead to increased job satisfaction and potentially higher earnings.
